Windows 10 support has ended. Can you keep using your PC?

Check whether your PC can run Windows 11 and what extended security updates mean for a home user in Estonia.

Microsoft ended regular support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025. Your PC and files can still work, but ongoing Windows 10 security updates depend on whether the device is enrolled in the Extended Security Updates programme.

See whether you can move to Windows 11

Open Windows Update or run Microsoft’s PC Health Check app. If your device is eligible and the upgrade is available, back up important files and check that your essential apps and devices, such as a printer or scanner, work with Windows 11.

If the PC is ineligible

Microsoft’s Estonian site lists 12 October 2027 as the end date for the consumer ESU programme for eligible Windows 10 22H2 devices. Check Windows Update for enrolment on your device. ESU provides important and critical security updates and gives you time to plan the move.

An SSD or extra memory can make an older PC feel faster. Check the reason for the Windows 11 compatibility failure before buying parts, since it could be the processor or a security requirement.

Before you move to a new computer

List the apps, files and peripherals you need and make sure you can access your accounts. On the new PC, open some of the transferred files, test the apps you use for work and try your printer before wiping the old machine.
