Regular Windows 10 support ended on 14 October 2025. Your computer still starts and your files are still there. If you use it every day, check whether it still receives security updates and decide what to do next.
Start with these checks
- Check whether your PC can run Windows 11. Open Start → Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update. If the upgrade is not offered there, run Microsoft’s PC Health Check app. If your PC is ineligible, note the reason or take a screenshot.
- If it can upgrade, back up your files first. Check the Desktop, Documents, Downloads and your photo folders. Open an important document from the backup as a test. If your employer manages the PC, agree the upgrade with IT first.
- If you need more time, check the ESU option in Windows Update. An eligible home PC running Windows 10 22H2 can receive extended security updates until 12 October 2027 if it is enrolled. Check what Windows Update says about your PC and put a date in the calendar to review your plans.
- On a new computer, test the things you use every day. Open an old file, print a page and see whether DigiDoc4 recognises your Estonian ID card. If you use the card online, try signing in as well. Keep the old computer until the files and programs you need are working on the new one.
RIA has extended Windows 10 support for Estonian ID software until autumn 2027. Check ESU separately for Windows security updates.
